Red Wine Tasting & Appetizer Reception
Friday, 7-9pm at Le Chateau
Guests gather for an informal wine tasting and opportunity to meet the weekend’s wine host and fellow event participants. A flight of wines is offered along with a buffet of savory gourmet appetizers and desserts (hearty enough for dinner!) This event is included in the weekend package, or available ala carte for $65/person, plus 20% gratuity and tax. Le Chateau is located at 7 Rice Avenue, Bayfield WI. Red Wine Tasting & Seminar
Saturday, 1-3pm at Old Rittenhouse Inn’s Landmark Restaurant
Our expert wine host increases guests’ wine knowledge through tasting and comparing wines, as well as learning about such things as growing conditions, harvesting of grape varieties, and identifying taste nuances when paired with certain foods. Red Wine Dinner
Saturday, 6:30pm at Old Rittenhouse Inn’s Landmark Restaurant
At Saturday’s gourmet dinner, each of the 6 courses is paired with a different red wine to highlight the flavors of both food and wine. Meal includes an appetizer, soup, salad, sorbet, choice of entree, and dessert. This event is included in the weekend package, or available ala carte for $95/person, plus 20% gratuity and tax. Holiday Dinner Menu 2020
Soup: choose Buttercup Squash Bisque or baked French Onion
Salad: choose from our classic Smoked Trout Salad or a Wedge Salad with Bleu Cheese, Bacon and Tomatoes
Sorbet: Cranberry Port
Entrée: choose from Steak Bercy, Fresh Local Fish, Poulet au Fromage, or the Rittenhouse Pork Chop with Apple Marmalade glaze
Dessert: choose from Hot Fudge, Rum and Turtle Sundaes, Figgy Pudding with Crème Anglaise, Cherry Pie or Black Bottom Pecan Pie

The inn is lavishly decorated for the season with a beautiful Concolor Fir tree decorated with a collection of vintage and new ornaments adding to the festive atmosphere. During dinner, we’ll feature songs from the Rittenhouse Singers three CDs featuring music from the holidays.

Due to Covid-19, we offer limited, physically-distanced seating for Holiday Dinners. Advance payment of $59/person is required. Tax and gratuity are payable at event. Please call (715) 779-5111 to reserve.

Holiday Dining Packages ~ $175 in addition to room rate
Reserve a one to three-night weekend stay and add our Holiday dining package to include seating for two at a Holiday Dinner, a hearty breakfast for two each morning, server gratuities for these meals and a special gift from the Innkeepers. Call (715) 779-5111

Mystery Lodging Packages include 2-nights lodging at Le Chateau, a hearty 2-course breakfast at Old Rittenhouse Inn (each morning), a sherry reception, 6-course Mystery Dinner (1-night), and gratuity for these meals. Pricing ranges from $545 – $595 per couple. Rooms have 12.5% tax; Packages 6% tax.

Each mystery was written by Old Rittenhouse Inn staff who loosely based their stories on our historic properties, area events, and the residents who founded and lived in Bayfield. Mysteries are written for 8-14 characters, generally 7 ladies and 7 men.

“The Traveling Impresario”
This story is set at the Island View Hotel (aka Le Chateau Boutin) in 1890s Bayfield. The hotel’s new manager is throwing a grand re-opening party at which a traveling entertainer and her entourage are guests. The party includes a gathering of prominent citizens and local odd-balls. There’s a mystery to be solved when one of the cast suddenly goes missing.  NOTE: Returning mystery groups may want to play the sequel which takes place in 1910.

“A Rotten Bunch of Apples”
This exciting 1920’s era mystery is filled with gangsters, bootleggers, flappers, and assassins! Bayfield’s biggest gangster and his ex-wife are throwing a party to celebrate the anniversary of their divorce. One can only imagine the lies and deceit of such a gathering! Everyone is out for himself and a big pay-off. It’s difficult to determine who is friend and who is foe.

“The Great Sea Port Debate”
This story takes place in the late 1870s. President Rutherford B. Hayes has appointed a committee to investigate the viability of a sea port on Lake Superior. The committee has narrowed the best options to two: Duluth, MN and Bayfield, WI. Politicians and business people from both sides have gathered at a gala party in anticipation of the outcome. The final decision is about to be announced when the committee chairman goes missing!
