Wisconsin Ice Fishing on Lake Superior

Lake Superior is a great spot to set up your fishing gear. Early ice at the beginning of December allows for shallow-water fishing for a diverse fish species until late January when deep water “bobbing” for Lake Trout begins.

You’d be sure to find other fish species, including salmon, pike, smallmouth bass, walleye, panfish, and perch. If the Madeline Island Ice Road is open and stable, you can set up a spot between Bayfield and Madeline Island just off the road.

With the assistance of an experienced guide, you can catch your lunch or dinner on the waters. For a delightful time on the lake, consider taking a guided ice fishing excursion with Beyond the Catch.

Chequamegon Bay

Chequamegon Bay is located just off the south end of Lake Superior by Ashland. It’s a well-known spot for smallmouth bass, walleye, and cold-water salmonids.

If on vacation in Bayfield during the winter, consider ice fishing on the bay. Early ice fishing starts toward the end of December, and one of the first fish that anglers see is the splake. Another productive fishing here is walleye. Focus more on regions off of Ashland and Washburn for a pleasant fishing experience.

Lake Owen

Lake Owen is located in the heart of Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest near Drummond, Bayfield County, Wisconsin. It has a scenic view and hosts picnics, outdoor adventures, camping, and fishing.

Ice fishing becomes one of the favorite activities of vacationers and locals when the snow begins to fall. Fish species that make this water their home include walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, bluegill, and perch.
