CAMBA Trail System

Bayfield is proud to be part of the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA) trail system. This network of off-road bike trails spans over 300 miles through the region’s wilderness areas, with more than 135 miles of singletrack, 70 miles of groomed winter trails, and over 200 miles of mapped gravel routes. Start riding the CAMBA trails at Mt. Ashwabay, just seven miles from Old Rittenhouse Inn. 

Mt. Ashwabay Trails

Start biking at Mt. Ashwabay and choose from 120 miles of singletrack trails, featuring fun elevation changes, switchbacks, and descents. 

  • Diesel Bear: Easy 1.4-mile loop through mixed forest with serpentine, short climbs, and rolling singletrack. 
  • Dirt Lip: Intermediate 1.7-mile loop with quick and exhilarating ups and downs. Can connect with Diesel Bear for a longer ride. 
  • Trogdor: Difficult 2.4-mile point-to-point trail with rapid descents and punchy ups. At the top, bikers will be rewarded with views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands.

Madeline Island Loop

One of the best ways to explore Madeline Island is on wheels! Start at La Pointe and bike along Middle Road to access many of the island’s top attractions, restaurants, shops, trails, and historic sites. 

Sand Bay Loop

The Sand Bay Loop is a 27-mile loop that takes you along Sand Bay on the Red Cliff Reservation. Bike to the beach and marina area for scenic views of Sand Island, York, and Eagle Island. 

Orchard Loop

Fall is the best time to bike along the Orchard Loop, home to more than a dozen berry and orchard farms in Bayfield. Follow County Highway J and bike to several of these destinations for apple and berry picking and fall festivities!
