This fall I had fun sneaking away from work during the afternoon to “hunt trees.” Fall color came late to Bayfield this year, which was nice because we actually had (some) time to enjoy it! This first one is one of my very favorite trees in Bayfield, up on 5th street by the old courthouse building.
FallColor2015_MPhillips_46 Here is the courthouse. My parents, Jerry and Mary Phillips, helped save this building from the wrecking ball in 1976.FallColor2015_MPhillips_44A few more from the courthouse property (now the home of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Headquarters).

The traffic was not cooperating but I finally got some shots.FallColor2015_MPhillips_19 FallColor2015_MPhillips_18 FallColor2015_MPhillips_17 FallColor2015_MPhillips_16 FallColor2015_MPhillips_15 FallColor2015_MPhillips_14 FallColor2015_MPhillips_13 A pretty little park on Manypenny Avenue.FallColor2015_MPhillips_12 Across the street from Old Rittenhouse Inn.FallColor2015_MPhillips_11Nice little cluster of autumnal fire

Fall Color in Bayfield, WisconsinFall. It may be the greatest time of year to visit Bayfield, with vibrant colors in the trees and the ever-changing beauty of Lake Superior as a constant backdrop. While some of our guests love to enjoy the area’s sights from the comfort of land, others like to get outdoors. Try sailing with one of the great local charters and get an eyeful of the Apostle Islands if full color. Or, bring your bikes and enjoy the smooth, flat roads just a short ferry ride away on Madeline Island.

What would fall in Bayfield be without a trip to one (or more) of the many Orchards that dot the top of the Bayfield Penninsula? There, you can sample and purchase a wide variety of apples, pears and other fall fruits. At Old Rittenhouse Inn’s Landmark Restaurant you can sample the bounty of the harvest season in the form of tasty gourmet soups, salads, entrees, desserts and sorbets.

Of course a little deal on lodging helps make your vacation go farther, so we came up with the following offer: Book three (or more) consecutive nights Sunday thru Thursday and we’ll take 50% off the third night, and give you a $25 Gift Certificate to spend at any Chamber member business during your stay.

This offer is valid from Tuesday September 3rd through Thursday, November 7th (Excluding the Thursday before Apple Festival). Note: the $25 gift certificate may not be applied towards your lodging package, but you can use it at our Landmark Restaurant and other Chamber member businesses.

Fall Brew Weekend Oct 29-30

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Things to Do in Bayfield WI - Fall Brew WeekendWe’re excited to announce our 15th annual Fall Brew Weekend, coming up the weekend of October 29-30, 2010. This is always one of our favorite events, because it gives us the chance to pair up with Ashland’s South Shore Brewery. Representatives from SSB will be at all three events over the course of the weekend.

The fun starts Friday night with a beer tasting and appetizer party featuring at least seven different brews and some of our very best appetizer selections, served buffet style. Brewer (and guitarist extraordinaire) Nathan Bean of South Shore Brewery will be on hand to discuss the flavor profiles of the different brews, and if we’re really nice, perhaps favor us with a song or two!?!

After a full breakfast on Saturday morning, we’ll take a shuttle bus over to Ashland to tour the brewery, sample all of the SSB brews on tap, and have a pub lunch (on your own) at the SSBs sister business, Deepwater Grille.

Saturday night is the Fall Brew Dinner, featuring six courses of gourmet cuisine paired with regional brews and hosted by brew master Bo Belanger. We’re still working on the menu, but past years have featured some amazing dishes including pan seared sturgeon with venison prosciutto and balsamic reduction, chateau briand, braised short ribs, and seared duck breast with wild plum glaze.

Events may be attended separately, or as part of a weekend package that includes all the events plus full breakfast each morning. This super-fun weekend is filling up fast, so if this sounds like your mug of brew, call soon!
