A Queen Anne Victorian
Old Rittenhouse Inn is a Queen Anne Victorian home completed in summer of 1890 as a summer residence. Mary and Jerry Phillips purchased the home in 1973 and began running Wisconsin’s first Bed and Breakfast.
The exterior of the house is a combination of native Lake Superior brownstone, creamery brick and shingles. Originally painted a dark green and shaded by massive pine trees, today it is more true to its “painted lady” architecture with a total of seven paint colors on the current version.
Landmark Restaurant
The rooms on the main floor originally served as the kitchen, formal parlor, family room and dining room. This space is now the setting for Landmark Restaurant, serving breakfast and dinner to houseguests and the public. A stunning cherry staircase leads to the upstairs guest rooms on the second and third floors.
Our Bayfield, WI B&B expanded in 1985, enlarging the kitchen and adding rooms. A total of 12 guest rooms and suites feature amenities like Lake Superior views, fireplaces and whirlpool tubs.
Le Chateau
In 1987 the Phillips’ purchased Le Chateau, built in 1907 by lumber baron Frank Boutin Jr. After extensive renovation, Le Chateau was opened as a sister inn to Old Rittenhouse. The home features lovely accommodations for overnight guests with seven rooms and breathtaking views of Lake Superior. Le Chateau’s extensive grounds include a beautifully landscaped pergola and fountain garden, the perfect site for wedding celebrations.
