HISTORICAL CHRONOLOGY: Old Rittenhouse Inn

1890 The Old Rittenhouse Inn is built.

1907 Le Chateau Boutin is built.

1910 Fountain Cottage is built

1974 Madison area music teachers Mary & Jerry Phillips use life savings for downpayment on Historic Queen Anne Mansion.

1975-6 Mary & Jerry decide to 'test the waters' with the idea of opening a bed & breakfast. The Old Rittenhouse Inn is born. Mary & Jerry take a leave of absence from teaching, and move north to open a year-round gourmet restaurant in the Inn, never again to return to their teaching positions.

1976 To combine their love of music with the Inn, the Phillips' create the Wassail Dinner Concerts.

1984 A new addition to the Rittenhouse is contracted, doubling the size of the inn, while preserving its historic lines.

1985 Mary & Jerry purchase Le Chateau Boutin, a 7 guest room Victorian mansion with manicured grounds and lovely Carriage House.

1997 After extensive rennovation, the Phillips' add the Fountain Cottage, a quaint Arts and Crafts with rich woodwork. Just a block from the Rittenhouse, the Fountain Cottage provides the utmost in privacy.

2002 The Inn adds a luxurious third floor suite, Room XI, at the main home.

2006 The Inn adds another luxurious third floor suite, Room XII, at the main home. The Rittenhouse Retreat is purchased.
